Going ‘green’ doesn’t have to mean boring. Alas, can’t say that this Marie Claire cover is any less boring even though the concept is supposed to be all about green and the environment.

Anushka Sharma looked gorgeous in skinny jeans, pink tube top and white jacket promoting a skin care brand at HyperCITY, Vashi and Thane on December 28.

The beaming Band Bajaa Baaraat (BBB) star’s sweetness was not marred in anyway by the white lingerie peeping out through her jacket.

Her layered cut hair framed her face and draped her shoulders.

We have got so used to seeing Anushka with her BBB co-star Ranveer Singh that we imagined she looked forlorn all by herself.

The 22-year-old Vaseline brand ambassador met and felicitated the winners of the brand’s Christmas weekend ‘Buy and Meet Me‘ contest at the mall.

As part of the contest, Vaseline customers were asked to fill out a qualifying form after making a product purchase; winners were decided though a lucky draw.

Anushka will be next seen in Nikhil Advani’s Patiala House with co-star Akshay Kumar.

The film is due in theatres on February 11.

Akshay Kumar gets to romance a younger actress again; this time it’s model-turned-actress Anushka Sharma.

In the film Patiala House, Akshay plays an aspiring cricketer Parghat Singh Kahlon and Anushka is his ladylove Simran.

In the film you will get to see Akshay as a simple guy who is trying to make his dream of being a cricketer come true. Anushka, true to her image, gets to play a girl-next-door, but not only does she look simple, but also modern. In the movie, Akki runs a shop but wants to play cricket. Though his father, played by Rishi Kapoor, is strictly against his aspirations, he triumphs in the end. The movie is based in London and narrates the story of a traditional Sikh family settled there.

Will the chemistry between Akshay and Anushka appeal to the audience? The duo is coming together for the first time; check them out in Patiala House as they get jiggy, romance and laugh together. The movie’s trailer will release along with Akshay’s Tees Maar Khan on December 24. Patiala House will release on February 11, 2011.

It is a sloppy kiss which the girl plants on the lips of the boy after a tired and exhausting day at work. Believe it or not, actress Anushka Sharma’s second lip-lock for the big screen required a lot of preparation. Interestingly, as sources say, it was not hard to convince Anushka to smooch on-screen.

“Anushka sat through a lot of meetings where she was explained that a lip-lock was absolutely necessary for the storyline and that it needed to be absolutely authentic. She was also advised to do as many practice sessions as needed for the scene to get it right,” says a source.

There were certain ‘practice sessions’ where the director explained to Anushka how she needed to kiss her co-star for it to looks absolutely authentic. She got it right after a couple of practice sessions.

“I think the lip-lock looks very authentic when I look at the scene now. I don’t think we should talk about the kiss separately. It is a part of the story and very vital to the love story between the girl and the boy,” says Anushka.

It may be a cliched question, but we still ask her about how she felt about kissing her co-star in front of the cameras and Anushka says, “There’s nothing to feel about it. It is just another scene that I did in the film. It is no different from any other challenging role. Besides, I don’t think kissing is such a big deal in films today.”

However, sources say that the kiss was very carefully edited to ensure that it doesn’t look contrived.

“The kiss was planted in a very technical manner where the director Maneesh explained to the actors in an extremely mechanical way what to do before the shoot,” says an official from the production house.

According to the official, the scene is not a part of a love-making sequence but a one-off shot that would seem to be “accidental.

“Also, the screenplay of the movie requires a late night scene right before the intimate scene, for which the director made sure that Ranveer and Anushka were actually exhausted so that the scene looked absolutely authentic,” the official ends.

Anushka Sharma on the sets of Sony’s Saas Bina Sasural

Wedding bells are ringing on the sets of Sony’s Saas Bina Sasuraal and guess who the wedding planners are for Tanya (Aishwarya Sakhuja) and Tej (Ravi Dubey)? They are none other than Shruthi Kakkar and Bittoo Sharma. Confused? To make it clear they are Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh, the lead characters of Yashraj Productions upcoming movie Band Baaja Baraat.

Anushka and Ranveer are going to be a part of the show Saas Bina Sasuraal and also will be seen performing for the wedding. The performances are not limited to them as there will be Tanushree Dutta and the comedy guru Govinda who too will be seen performing on the show. It is a guarantee that viewers are going to have a great time watching them performing in their favorite show.

Anushka Sharma may be playing a wedding planner in her next film Band Baaja Baaraat but she is absolutely clueless at this point of time when asked how she would like to plan her own wedding. In an exclusive interview, Anushka talks about her 3 film journey with YRF, her role as a wedding planner and her equation with newcomer Ranveer Singh. Read on!

After Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Badmaash Company you are back for your third film with YRF namely Band Baaja Baaraat. How has the journey been so far?

It’s been fabulous. For someone like me who didn’t anticipate entering the world of films, and now working with one of the most premiere production houses in the country is a huge high. It’s been a nice working relationship with Yash Raj Films.

From the looks of it, Band Baaja Baaraat seems like a story about two wedding planners and their journey. Could you tell us more about it?

The film is not just about wedding planners. It’s a romantic comedy and talks about the journey of these two characters – Bittoo Sharma and Shruti Kakkar- their coming of age, and the ups and downs in their relationship.

In Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, you played the character of the shy Taani, in Badmaash Company you played the bold and bindaas Bulbul. How’s your character of Shruti Kakkar in Band Baaja Baaraat?

My character Shruti Kakkar is a contemporary girl; she is a girl of today. In many ways Shruti is a mix of Taani and Bulbul. She is the most balanced character I have played. She is someone who every young Indian girl will be able to identify with.

Anushka Sharma How similar are you to your character of Shruti Kakkar?

I think like Shruti, I am also independent, very enterprising and straight-forward. These qualities are similar but like I said, every girl would be able to identify in some way with Shruti Kakkar. I identify a lot with her.

Not many Hindi films have depicted wedding planners as a profession so what kind of research did you guys undertake to get your character right?

Yes…as you said no Hindi film has depicted wedding planners, so it was a new concept that we were executing. Having said that, wedding planners work in pretty much the same way like an event management company, except that they specialise only in weddings. As actors we had enough on the script to play with.

Could you tell us a bit about your look and styling in the film?

My look is very contemporary. Clothes are not very important in BBB. Clothes are just complimenting the character. While shooting in Delhi, we observed the way the young girls dress and keeping that in mind we decided on Shruti’s costumes. Niharika Khan, the stylist has done a fabulous job.

The film has a very North Indian feel to it, do you think it has a pan India audience?

Absolutely. The language in the film is very youthful and this is how the youth of today speaks. One of the biggest USPs of the film is the dialogues. There is nothing very filmy about the dialogues, it’s very real and identifiable.

Music of all your films so far has been superb, how do you rate the music of Band Baaja Baaraat?

I would say that out of all my 3 films till date, the music of BBB is my favourite. I love ‘Ainvayi Ainvayi’ as it’s a really nice foot-tapping number and even ‘Tarkeebein’ is a cool song that is sure to be liked by the youth. It’s a young and fresh album and I relate to it as a youngster. I know for sure that songs of BBB would be a favourite at all the weddings this season.

You debuted with the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’- Shahrukh Khan and then worked with established stars like Shahid Kapoor and Akshay Kumar (in the forthcoming Patiala House). How was it working with an absolute newcomer like Ranveer?

It was fabulous working with Ranveer. He is a very sincere actor and very dedicated to his craft. His energy on the sets is infectious. He is extremely animated as an actor which is one of the best traits an actor can possess. He knew that he had a huge opportunity in his hands and hence wanted to make the most of it. Credit must be given to him as not many actors get launched in such a big way and that too without having any filmy background. He has made it on his own.

How has the experience been with debutant director Maneesh Sharma?

Maneesh and I go a long way. He was the associate director on Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and I clearly remember he was the first person who auditioned me for Rab Ne. We became good friends during the filming of Rab Ne and have continued our friendship ever since then. I always knew that Maneesh was going to direct a film soon but didn’t know at that point of time that he would want me to star in his first film.

After Band Baaja Baaraat, what are your future projects?

After BBB, there is Patiala House opposite Akshay Kumar which releases in February. I am looking forward to that film too.

Aren’t you also doing Rohit Dhawan’s Desi Boyz?

As a policy I don’t comment on films that I am going to be doing or thinking of doing until the production house confirms it themselves. So I wouldn’t like to comment on that.

Finally Anushka, if you had to plan your wedding what kind of wedding would you have?

Dude…you want me to answer this question? I am not even thinking about my wedding at this point of time. My intelligence and creativity has all been used in planning the weddings in the film. Now for my own wedding, I’ll have to take a break for say 4 years and then decide.

The ease and elan with which Anushka Sharma essayed her first role, the pivotal character of a strong willed Punjabi girl, Taani, in her debut venture, RAB NE BANA DI JODI, convinced all, specially the audience that she was a hard core Punjabi kudi (girl). However, people will be highly surprised to learn that Anushka is not from Punjab, in fact she is from Muzaffarnagar in Western Uttar Pradesh but has been brought up in Bangalore.

When questioned about the fact that that the audience thinks that she is a Punjabi, Anushka replied that it was because her first role was that of a Punjabi girl which made all people to assume that she is from Punjab. With a touch of humour Anushka added that if she had essayed the character of an African-American in her first film, everyone would have thought she was indeed an Afro-American!

Elaborating on her role in her upcoming film, BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, Anushka says that Shruti, her character in the film is from Delhi and so like her first film, RAB NE BANA DI JODI, this time too she had to learn the nuances to get into the skin of the character, that of a girl from Delhi, especially the accent of Delhi girls, who talk in short and don�t complete their sentences. She adds that she had to work a lot on many aspects of her character, including the intricate and very minor details for BAND BAAJA BAARAAT.

Well, now we know how much effort Anushka puts in her role and may be that is the reason why she is so very successful.

The question isn’t that how many films Anushka Sharma has done in the last two years. The question is – How many more will she be doing after that? In the Hindi film star terms, the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 are the years of Anushka Sharma. Then she is endorsing two of India’s biggest brands. Where has this girl come from? We’re still trying to figure that out.

I share a moment when I proposed her the first time I met her for her debut film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and she gets excited. “Yes, I recall. In fact, you are the first and the only one to propose me till now”, says the towering beauty. And what irony to bring up the subject when her third film is all about wedding planning as she plays ‘Shruti’, one of the wedding planners along with newcomer Ranveer Singh who plays ‘Bittu‘, her partner in business. But more than this, Anushka‘s career has been sustained by a willingness to evolve. In person, she is extremely beautiful. But beneath the artfully natural make-up and tumbling hair there is an unexpected freshness. Even when you close your eyes and think about the actress, you will see the actress has little lines of expression, the lithe frame of someone who doesn’t have to starve to remain slender, and the luminous allure of a grown-up woman who has got what she wanted from life.

UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent chats with his soon-to-wed Anushka Sharma. Then when you open your eyes, the reality seems like a dream you’ve woken up to. If only Anushka could spare a thought and hook me up with someone. That’d be great!

“The only way actors can sustain themselves in this industry is by doing the right kind of films”
It’s not how quickly my third film has come out, but the fact that the kind of films I am doing is making me proud of myself. I am picking the right films and that is what any actor would want. I want to pick up offers that make me happy and I felt that with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Badmaash Company and with Band Baaja Baaraat. I’m not seeing how many films I am coming up with in a year. It’s also about what kind of people I am working with. The only way actors can sustain themselves in this industry is by doing the right kind of films. I am here on my own and I go home proud by the end of the day.

“Thank you for comparing me with Adam Sandler”
It is an unexpected comparison you’ve done with Adam Sandler. Anushka and Adam, wow! Adam Sandler is a brilliant actor and very funny. I don’t know if I am the Adam Sandler of the industry as far as female celebrities are concerned but yes, my latest film Band Baaja Baaraat has a lot of humour. I don’t think the film is comedy. There is light humour sprinkled everywhere. The film is a romantic comedy and I take the compliment in good humour (laughs).

“Ranveer has a lot of potential and is a superb actor”
It’s the truth that I made my debut two years ago with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and today I am working with a debutant actor in my third film. That’s life, that’s Bollywood. I was a newcomer barely two years ago. I think as encouraging as people were of me, I feel the same way for Ranveer. More importantly because he is a very talented actor. That’s what got him the role in Band Baaja Baarat. People are already loving Ranveer in the promos and once they see the film, they’ll second my opinion.

“The more I am seen on the big screen, the better for me”
I don’t know how this works. If I am not doing any film for a few months, the media starts writing about Anushka Sharma not seen. If I come out with back to back releases, they write that I am rushing to climb the ladder of success. I don’t decide these things. I just pick up scripts and do films that interest me. If my films have come in quick succession then I can’t be sad. I’m happy about the films I am doing and happier on the feedback I am getting. The more I am seen on the big screen, the better for me.

“If a girl identifies with me in a certain way, the advert is working for both of us”
I am endorsing two brands at the moment. I endorse brands that go with my personality. At the end of the day, you’re an actor and you’re trying to sell the image and the brand. If a girl identifies with me in a certain way, the advert is working for both of us. Parachute and Vaseline are such brands that not only appeal to the youth but to all generations in a generic way.

Anushka Sharma “I am not getting married. I would rather concentrate on getting others married”
We have really embarked upon our characters by following the script. To be honest, the film is about an event management of a wedding. I haven’t really bothered to take real life stories of my friends just because the script demanded it. Normally, actors do bring in some suggestions and stories they’ve heard from friends and colleagues but here, the story was in the right place and didn’t leave us to do anything except play our characters well. As of now, I am not getting married. I would rather concentrate on getting others married.

“I didn’t have a three film deal with Yash Raj Films”
There was no three film deal with Yash Raj Films. I wasn’t tied up with them anyway. I signed Patiala House before I signed Band Baaja Baaraat.
